“Rimping Supermarket aspires to make everyday shopping a dignified & pleasurable experience, combining fair pricing and high standards of customer care with an enduring commitment to the welfare of the local community, and to the environment”
We are a little different to other supermarkets.
Our beginnings date back over 60 years to a small grocery shop on the east bank of the River Ping. At that time, most parts of Chiang Mai outside the old city were rice fields and forest. The ‘Superhighway’ was a dusty track. There were few motor vehicles; local people travelled either on foot, bicycle or pedal rickshaws. Although the railway line opened in 1921, a surfaced road was not completed until 1972. Before that time, driving a car from Bangkok was often an adventure!
From that simple “Mom & Pop” venture, we have grown into a chain of nine stores. In other respects, little has changed. We remain a family-run business. We have no international affiliations. We love what we do, and we think that shopping should be a pleasant and dignified experience. Promotional announcements are unheard of, and light classical music plays in the background. Browsing can often be a discovery, as we stock many unusual products not sold elsewhere.
Food safety is a top priority. We test incoming fresh products for pesticides, toxic residues, and reject any items found to be unsafe. Colour labels on vegetable packs identify five different growing methods. These range from green (100% organic) to red (general market produce). This allows customers to make a convenient and informed choice of what to buy.
We buy only from reputable suppliers, many of whom we have known and trusted for decades. We also feature quality products made by companies in the community which we call 'Local Talent'. This category helps small businesses to succeed, and also provides some interesting shopping choices.
The Rimping ‘Superplus’ customer loyalty programme enables customers to collect points for purchases made. Accumulated points, exchangeable for attractive gifts, never expire. Life membership costs 90 Baht.
We also operate our own wining & dining facilities. Rimping Promenada features a Bistro, Seafood & Oyster Bar, a Japanese restaurant, and a Wine Bar. A gourmet Coffee Corner and a convenient snack counter complete the line-up. This makes it possible to combine shopping, dining or entertaining in a single elegant setting. Rimping Maya Mall has a Japanese restaurant, and features Chiang Mai’s first and only Cheese Bar. At Rimping Grocery Mali Place, The Chef’s Table restaurant is enduringly popular for its tasty Asian and European dishes. Rimping specialises in wines, ranging from simple excellent value vintages up to some of the world’s most famous Grands Crus.
A convenient Home Delivery Service operates from all nine Rimping branches. We also deliver meals cooked-to-order, such as roast dinners, and cheese platters. This makes home entertaining a pleasure, and (shh!) your guests need not know who did the cooking!
We operate our own in-house ‘Oven’ Bakeries, producing fine breads, pastries and other patisserie delicacies. Our beef aging and cheese maturing facilities enable us to offer superior quality meat and cheese products
Rimping Promenada's 'Epicure' department features fine imported kitchenware, wine accessories and barbecue equipment. A place where Chefs and kitchen lovers congregate!
We support environmental and community-related concerns. Rimping's orange-coloured plastic bags biodegrade and disintegrate in about eight months. Each time a customer declines a bag, it activates a 50 satang donation to the company's ‘Helping Hands’ charity. This programme supports the complete education of fourteen boys in a local home. It pays for their school and university or college, all the way to secure employment, and into a worthwhile career.
