The Origins of BioAsia and the Vision to Add Value to Thai Organic Rice

BioAsia was established in Thailand in 2006 by a group of shareholders who recognized the great potential of Thai organic rice. At that time, organic rice in Thailand had not yet been fully developed into a wide range of value-added products. The founders therefore aimed to enhance the value of Thai organic rice by transforming it into innovative organic food products that combine both delicious taste and strong nutritional benefits.

International Shareholder Structure Supporting Global Market Expansion

One distinctive characteristic of BioAsia is its international shareholder structure, which includes partners from New Zealand and Denmark. These partners are actively involved in the organic food industry and possess deep insights into the needs of global markets. This international collaboration has played a crucial role in enabling BioAsia to enter global markets effectively while establishing strong business networks across multiple countries.

BioAsia’s Guiding Philosophy for Sustainable Food Systems

BioAsia operates under the guiding philosophy:

“With Better Food Origins Come Better Society, And Better Future.”

This philosophy reflects the company’s commitment to developing and sourcing high-quality food ingredients while conducting business responsibly in order to create positive and sustainable impacts for consumers, society, and the environment.

The Meaning of “Organic” at BioAsia

For BioAsia, the concept of “organic” extends beyond simply producing chemical-free products that meet strict quality standards. It also encompasses the entire production process, which must be environmentally friendly and designed to ensure sustainability for future generations.

In other words, BioAsia believes that its production processes must not harm environmental quality and must not negatively affect local communities.

The company places great importance on sourcing raw materials from sustainable and certified organic farms. In addition, BioAsia incorporates Lean Production principles into its manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and significantly minimize environmental impact.

A Vision Built on Sustainability

BioAsia conducts its business with sustainability as a core principle. The company’s vision is to become a globally recognized health food producer through strict adherence to ethical business practices.

The brand’s key missions include:

Improving Farmers’ Quality of Life

BioAsia supports Thai farmers in transitioning from chemical-based agriculture to organic farming systems. This transition helps farmers reduce costs associated with chemical inputs, minimize debt burdens, and improve the health and well-being of agricultural workers. At the same time, it promotes a sustainable agricultural system for the long term.

Developing Innovative Products

BioAsia places strong emphasis on research and product development, using Thai organic rice as its primary raw material to create innovative food products. These products are designed to meet the needs of modern consumers who seek food that is both nutritious and flavorful, while also aligning with health-conscious lifestyles.

Promoting Employee Well-being

The company believes that high-quality products come from people who are physically and emotionally well. For this reason, BioAsia places great importance on employee welfare and quality of life, treating its staff as valued members of a large family.

Integrated Organic Food Production

Another key factor that differentiates BioAsia from many other producers in Asia is its ability to operate as a fully integrated organic food manufacturer. The company manages the entire process—from sourcing organic raw materials and processing them into finished products to exporting them to international markets—all within its own facilities.

BioAsia’s manufacturing plant is located in Chiang Rai Province in northern Thailand, a region widely recognized for producing high-quality organic rice. Being located close to its main raw material sources allows the company to maintain strict control over the quality of the organic rice used in production.

From OEM Manufacturing to Brand Development

In its early years, BioAsia began by producing food products under an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) model for international clients, using Thai organic rice as the primary ingredient for food and snack products.

This approach allowed the company to gain valuable insights into global market demands and international food production standards, while also helping to build strong business networks and expand export markets.

As the company gained more experience and expertise, it began developing its own branded products to serve consumers directly.

One of the company’s first breakthrough products was Organic Rice Cakes, made from organic brown jasmine rice and riceberry rice. The success of this product came from a production process that avoids frying and instead uses pressure-baking technology, allowing the rice to puff while preserving its natural nutritional value.

Expanding Product Lines

BioAsia has since expanded its product portfolio into several additional categories, including:

Organic Rice Crackers Thin, crispy rice crackers made from organic rice and natural ingredients.

BiteMe A sub-brand offering modern organic rice snacks designed to appeal to younger consumers and working professionals.

Organic Rice Bites Geometric-shaped snacks developed under the concept of “4 Frees”, meaning:
  • Fat-free
  • Cholesterol-free
  • Free from synthetic chemicals and MSG
  • Environmentally friendly production

International Certifications and Global Recognition

BioAsia has received organic certifications from several leading international organizations, including:
  • USDA Organic (United States)
  • EU Organic (European Union)
  • JAS Organic (Japan)
  • Canada Organic
  • HALAL Certification
  • BRC Global Standard for Food Safety
  • IFS (International Featured Standards)
These certifications serve not only as evidence of the quality, safety, and production standards of BioAsia products but also as key factors enabling the company to export to high-standard international markets such as the United States, the European Union, Australia, and New Zealand.

Through its commitment to sustainability, innovation, and quality, BioAsia continues to play an important role in promoting Thai organic rice on the global stage while supporting farmers, protecting the environment, and delivering healthier food choices to consumers worldwide.
