Origin and History
Tangyuan (汤圆) originated during the Song Dynasty (9601279 AD). It was originally known as Fuyuanzi (floating round balls), named after the way it floats when cooked. The name later evolved into TangyuanTang means soup, and Yuan means round or completeness.

Tangyuan is traditionally eaten during the Lantern Festival (the last day of Chinese New Year celebrations) and the Winter Solstice Festival. Its round shape symbolizes reunion, harmony, and family togethernessimportant values in Chinese culture.
