Jules Destrooper

The story of Jules Destrooper began in 1885 in Lo, a town located in the West Flanders region of Belgium. There, a young merchant named Jules Destrooper opened his shop, selling imported colonial goods including coffee, tea, tobacco, spices, and chocolate. Today, Rimping Supermarket invites you to delve into the history of this venerable Belgian biscuit brand that continues to deliver legendary deliciousness.

From a Promotional Idea to a Full-Fledged Biscuit Business (1885 - 1886 AD)

Later, Jules Destrooper came up with a promotional idea. He created a special recipe, using real butter and fresh almonds, to make Almond Thin, a deliciously crisp biscuit, which he offered as a gift to his customers. One of his key customers was the owner of Hotel Teirlinck, a famous hotel in Lo.

The hotel owner tasted the Almond Thin and loved it so much that he asked to purchase it to serve to guests staying at the hotel. When served, the Almond Thin received overwhelmingly positive feedback, and many guests began inquiring about the biscuit's origin.

This event inspired Jules to seriously shift his business to biscuit production. He founded a company named Jules Destrooper after himself to produce biscuits for sale in 1886.

Widespread Popularity and Product Expansion (1886 - 1950 AD)

After its launch, his Almond Thin quickly gained popularity, spreading throughout Belgium. With its unique taste, rich real butter aroma, and crispy texture, many people traveled to the town just to taste his Almond Thin.

As demand grew, the company adopted modern baking techniques and expanded its operations, enabling them to produce a large volume of biscuits. In due course, the company expanded its product line by introducing new items such as Lukken Waffles and Butter Crisp, which also proved popular.

Global Reach and Commitment to Quality (1950 AD - Present)

In 1950, the company began exporting its products internationally to Europe and America. This led to Jules Destrooper biscuits gaining international recognition. The company remained steadfast in its commitment to the quality of its ingredients. Each biscuit is produced using only the finest ingredients, without artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives.

In the modern era, the company continues to innovate, expanding its product range to include a variety of biscuits and cookies, such as Virtuoso, a gourmet biscuit line designed for special occasions, and Belgian Chocolate Thins, which combine the brand's traditional biscuit recipe with fine Belgian chocolate.

Over the years, Jules Destrooper has received numerous awards and accolades, further strengthening its reputation as a producer of premium Belgian biscuits. Today, Jules Destrooper is available in over 75 countries and continues to be run by the fourth generation of the Destrooper family.
