Boursin Cheese

Boursin is a soft cream cheese made from cow's milk, known for its smooth, delicate flavor. It boasts a distinctive characteristic: it's infused with garlic and various herbs. It's commonly enjoyed with crackers, bread, and fresh vegetables. Today, Rimping Supermarket invites you to learn more about this popular cream cheese.

Origins in Normandy (1957 AD)

The story of Boursin began in 1957 in the region of Normandy, France, with François Boursin, an experienced Cheese Maker. He was dedicated to developing a new cheese recipe, inspired by a traditional French party food called Fromage Frais, which was often served with herbs, garlic, and other seasonings.

François spent several years experimenting with different ingredients and techniques. He started by pasteurizing fresh cow's milk and fermenting it with lactic bacteria. Then, he carefully selected premium garlic and fine herbs to blend in, adding depth of flavor to this unique cheese.

First Launch and Flavor Innovation (1961 AD)

In 1961, François first introduced his fresh cheese with garlic and fine herbs (Boursin Garlic & Fine Herbs) to the market under the brand name Boursin, named after his surname. It achieved great success because this cheese was easy to eat, delicious, and could be paired with a variety of foods such as bread, sandwiches, crackers, salads, and fresh vegetables.

François's innovation not only created a new type of cheese but also pioneered new flavors in fresh cheese. Over the decades, the company has expanded its product line with many more flavors to cater to diverse consumer preferences, such as Shallot & Chive, Pepper, and Fig & Nut.

International Expansion and New Ownership (1970s - Present)

Boursin's popularity was not limited to France. In the 1970s, Boursin began gaining traction in international markets, both in Europe and America. People started incorporating it into a wider variety of uses, such as stuffing it into baked chicken breasts, serving it as a dip with snacks, and pairing it with mashed potatoes.

In 1990, Unilever, the British consumer goods giant, acquired Boursin. Under Unilever's management, this cheese was introduced to many more countries worldwide.

Later, in 2007, Le Groupe Bel, a leading cheese producer, acquired Boursin from Unilever to continue producing this cheese according to its traditional approach. The company continues to explore new flavors, using high-quality herbs and spices as ingredients.

Today, Boursin is a global brand popular in over 35 countries and remains a top choice for those who appreciate well-seasoned cream cheese.
