Ecostore
Ecostore is an eco-friendly brand from New Zealand. This brand focuses on products that are environmentally friendly and beneficial for user health, using ingredients from plants and natural minerals, free from harmful chemicals, and without animal testing.
A Green Beginning from Malcolm and Melanie Rands
The story of Ecostore began with Malcolm Rands and Melanie Rands, a husband and wife duo living in a small village called Matakana in northern New Zealand. Both started as social and environmental activists, establishing New Zealand's first Permaculture sustainable farming community in 1987.
As social and environmental activists, they strongly believed that products used in daily life should not be harmful to health or the environment. Malcolm himself had direct experience with health issues caused by exposure to chemicals in common products. For this reason, in 1993, he began researching and experimenting with making cleaning and personal care products for household use, utilizing natural and eco-friendly ingredients.
After testing the products, he found that his allergies and skin problems improved. He then began producing and selling products such as soaps, shampoos, and dishwashing liquids via mail. The response was positive, as people started to see the difference and benefits of products free from harmful chemicals. With this support, they decided to establish the Ecostore company, with a vision to provide safe and sustainable choices for people worldwide.
Ecostore : Natural Safety, Tangible Sustainability
In 1997, they opened the first Ecostore shop in Auckland, New Zealand's population center. This shop sold products in bottles, in bulk, and offered a refill option where customers could bring their bottles back for refills.
Ecostore focuses on using ingredients derived from plants and natural minerals, free from harmful chemicals such as parabens and various residues, and without animal testing. The company's products cover a wide range, from household cleaning products, laundry products, personal care products for adults and children, to baby products. All products adhere to key principles: safety, freedom from harmful chemicals, and environmental friendliness.
Another point of pride for Ecostore is its use of packaging made from recycled plastic and easily biodegradable materials, as well as minimizing the use of new plastic as much as possible. This commitment not only helps reduce plastic waste but also truly reflects their environmental responsibility.
Transparency, Social Responsibility, and Global Growth
Ecostore values transparency, disclosing detailed information about ingredients and their origins, even for products where the law does not mandate full ingredient disclosure. Additionally, the company donates a portion of its profits to the Fairground Foundation, a foundation dedicated to creating a more sustainable and healthier world for everyone.
In 2004, Ecostore expanded its market to Australia and entered the Asian market in 2016. Currently, Ecostore products are sold in major supermarkets worldwide and have received numerous awards for sustainability and innovation.
Ecostore is a certified B Corp, a global standard for businesses that consider their social and environmental impact. Furthermore, in 2019, Ecostore was recognized as the most trusted and sustainable brand in New Zealand by the Colmar Brunton Better Futures Report.
