Schneider Weisse

Schneider Weisse is a historic and renowned brewery from Germany, founded in 1872 in Munich by Georg Schneider I and his son. The brewery is famous for producing authentic Bavarian Weissbier (wheat beer), made with traditional methods and high-quality ingredients.

The story of Schneider Weisse began at a time when wheat beer production in Bavaria was a privilege reserved exclusively for the royal family and the aristocracy. At the time, the general public's brewing activities were restricted by the Reinheitsgebot (Beer Purity Law) of 1516, which mandated the use of only water, hops, and barley malt.

As the production of wheat beer became monopolized, its popularity waned, as styles like Braunbier and lager gained favor.

However, Georg Schneider I, the founder of Schneider Weisse, was not deterred. He saw the potential of wheat beer and successfully bid for the right to brew it from the royal court. In 1872, he established his own brewery in Munich under the name G. Schneider & Sohn, which was later renamed Schneider Weisse.

Since wheat beer production was an aristocratic privilege, Georg Schneider I's achievement as the first commoner to receive a brewing license was a significant turning point in the history of Weissbier.

A Long Journey: From Munich to Kelheim

The path of Schneider Weisse was not always smooth. During World War II, the Munich brewery was heavily damaged, forcing the Schneider family to relocate their production to the town of Kelheim in 1944. This new location was the site of the ancient Weisses Bräuhaus brewery, originally built in 1607 by Duke Maximilian I of Bavaria.

Despite the change in location and various challenges, Schneider Weisse has maintained a philosophy that blends tradition with innovation. They continue to use the original recipes passed down through generations, focusing on high-quality natural ingredients and a special fermentation process that creates a complex and unique flavor profile. At the same time, they continuously innovate, introducing new wheat beer varieties to meet diverse consumer demands, all while upholding the quality and unique character of Schneider Weisse.

Distinctive Character and Quality

Schneider Weisse is known as an expert in Bavarian wheat beer with a long history, highlighted by these key features:

Traditional Methods: Brewed using techniques passed down since 1872, such as open fermentation and bottle fermentation, which are traditional methods that contribute to a complex and smooth flavor.

  • Outstanding Aroma and Taste: Features a sweet aroma of tropical fruits like pineapple, floral notes, and rich hops, all harmoniously blended. The texture is smooth, with a sweet, confection-like flavor in some recipes. Some may also have a hint of yogurt, adding a refreshing note and distinguishing it from other wheat beers.
  • Diverse Beer Recipes (TAP Series): The brewery offers a variety of beers under the TAP name, such as TAP5 Hopfenweisse, a heavily hopped wheat beer that perfectly balances the fruity flavors of a Weizen.
  • Quality Ingredients: Uses high-quality wheat malt, barley, and hops from Bavaria, selecting both traditional and new hop varieties to create a balanced aroma and taste.
With its smooth taste and sweet, non-bitter aroma, Schneider Weisse is an easy-to-drink beer that has gained popularity among a wide range of consumers, earning it a prestigious reputation in Germany and worldwide.

Today, the Schneider Weisse brewery is managed by Georg Schneider VI, the sixth-generation heir, who remains committed to a philosophy that honors beer history while embracing new innovations, affirming its leadership in the global wheat beer industry.
