The companys main products include Jamón Ibérico and Jamón Serrano, offered in various quality levels. Other specialties include Iberian Acorn-Fed Chorizo, Mini Iberian Pork Ham, Acorn Loin, Bellota Sausage, and many more.

Founded in 1986 by Miguel España Muñoz, the company started as a small sausage factory covering just 600 square meters in Escalonilla, Spain. At that time, Miguel was still employed elsewhere but eventually decided to dedicate himself fully to his passion for producing high-quality cured meats. By 1989, he left his job to focus solely on the family business and expanded the factory by an additional 3,200 square meters to meet rising market demand.

This entrepreneurial spirit reflected the determination and craftsmanship typical of Spanish producers at the time. Despite limited resources and technology, Miguel believed in the potential of his products. His early success was built on consistent quality, exceptional taste, and fair pricing, earning recognition from local consumers.

Growth and Expansion in the EU Era

The 1990s brought significant opportunities when Spain officially joined the European Union, enabling faster economic growth and easier exportation. Miguel España e Hijos seized the moment, scaling up production and aligning with EU food safety standards.

In 1997, the company expanded its facilities by 1,800 square meters and in 2001 added 3,300 square meters of ham-drying rooms. They also acquired additional warehouses in Escalonilla for storage and logistics. By 2007, another ham-curing facility was purchased in Geridonte to further boost production capacity.

Transition to the Next Generation

A pivotal moment came when leadership transitioned to the founders four children: Miguel Ángel, Diego, Mª Carmen, and Rubén. Each took on key responsibilitiesMiguel Ángel and Diego overseeing production and factory operations, Mª Carmen handling marketing and sales, while Rubén managed finance and general administration.

This family-based management model helped preserve product authenticity and quality across generations while adapting to changing markets.

Innovation Meets Tradition

While staying true to traditional Spanish curing methodssuch as using sea salt and natural agingthe company has embraced modern innovations, including controlled smoking and temperature-regulated curing technology. These advancements ensure consistent quality year-round regardless of weather conditions.

They also expanded into health-conscious and specialty products, such as low-fat items, organic lines, preservative-free options, and convenient packaging solutions to meet modern consumer needs.

  • Sausages: Including Chorizo, Salchichón, Morcilla, and Lomo Embuchado, crafted with premium spices and herbs sourced from across Spain.

The company prioritizes food safety and quality, holding certifications such as ISO 9001 (quality management systems) and HACCP (hazard control in food processing). They also meet all EU food regulations.

In 2018, Miguel España e Hijos achieved international recognition with two Guinness World Records: The Largest Plate of Hand-Cut Ham and The Largest Concentration of Professional Ham Cutters.

Present Day

Today, the company generates over USD 47 million annually (approx. 1.5 billion THB) and is considered a leader in Spains processed meat industry, with strong market presence both domestically and internationally.
