The Origins of Sunsol: A Health Food Brand from Australia

Sunsol is a leading health food brand from Australia specializing in the production of muesli, granola, and a variety of healthy snack products. The brand was originally established under Select Harvests, one of Australia’s largest producers and distributors of almonds.

One of Sunsol’s early successes was the launch of its “10+ Series” muesli range, which includes six nutrient-rich recipes. The key concept behind this series is the use of more than 10 natural ingredients in each recipe, carefully selected from whole grains, dried fruits, nuts, and various seeds.

The products in this series include Orchard Fruits and Almond, Classic Fruit and Nut, Apple and Berries, Nut Lover’s Blend, Fruit Lover’s Blend, and Ancient Grains and Superfruits. All of these recipes are low in glycaemic index (GI), high in protein and dietary fiber, and suitable for individuals following vegetarian and vegan diets.

The 10+ muesli series has been recognized by nutritionists and food scientists in Australia as one of the most nutritionally balanced muesli products available. Each recipe combines a wide range of ingredients in a balanced formulation, providing low-GI carbohydrates, protein, and fiber while maintaining low levels of salt and sugar. Additionally, the products are produced without artificial colors or synthetic flavorings, further reinforcing their health-focused positioning.

 

Ownership Changes and Business Expansion

In July 2021, Sunsol was acquired by Prolife Foods, a New Zealand-based company. Later, in 2023, The Arnott’s Group, an Australian multinational food company with a history spanning more than 160 years, acquired several food brands from Prolife Foods, including Sunsol.

Following this acquisition, the brands were integrated into a newly established business unit called Good Food Partners, which is responsible for production and distribution.

Under the management of Good Food Partners, Sunsol has undergone significant development and enhancement in several areas. These include innovation in production processes, stricter quality control standards, and expanded distribution networks that allow the brand to reach consumers in multiple countries around the world.

Good Food Partners has a clear strategic objective to develop Sunsol into one of the leading brands in the health food sector, focusing on the production of nutrient-rich muesli, granola, and healthy snacks that meet the needs of modern consumers who seek both convenience and improved health.

 

A Major Brand Refresh in 2023

In 2023, Sunsol underwent a major rebranding initiative that included both new packaging and expanded product lines.

Chris Diver, Managing Director of Good Food Partners, explained that some consumers felt the previous packaging did not fully reflect the identity of the Sunsol brand. The name “Sunsol” evokes the image of warm Australian sunshine and the relaxed atmosphere of Australia’s beaches, symbolizing freshness, vitality, and optimism.

The rebranding therefore aimed to capture the brand’s essence through the concept of “a bowl of hope warmed by the Australian sun.”

The new packaging features brighter and more vibrant colors, designed to stand out on store shelves while reinforcing the brand’s energetic and natural identity.

 

Expanding Product Lines

Alongside the packaging redesign, Sunsol also introduced several new product innovations.

Natural Muesli Blends

Two new varieties were introduced:
  • Almond, Cashew, Macadamia & Walnut
  • Blueberry, Goji Berry, Coconut & Chia

Toasted Muesli Blends

Two additional toasted muesli varieties were launched:
  • Almond, Honey & Dark Chocolate
  • Almond, Cashew & Chia

Granola (First Time in the Brand’s History)

For the first time, Sunsol introduced a granola product line, available in four flavors:
  • Almond, Pink Lady Apple & Cinnamon
  • Almond & Super Berry
  • High Protein Choc Almond
  • High Protein Honey Nut
One of the highlights of the new product range is the High Protein Granola, which has been developed to contain approximately 23% more protein than leading brands in the market. This innovation aims to meet the growing demand from modern consumers who prioritize health, nutrition, and functional benefits in their daily diet.

 

Sunsol’s Core Philosophy

Throughout its development, Sunsol has maintained a consistent brand philosophy focused on delivering high-quality plant-based ingredients through transparent and responsible production processes.

Today, all Sunsol products are required to meet strict standards:
  • No preservatives
  • No artificial colors or flavors
  • Suitable for vegetarian and vegan diets
  • Made with 100% Australian-grown oats
