Beryl’s A Renowned Premium Chocolate Brand from Malaysia
Beryl’s is one of Malaysia’s leading chocolate brands, growing from a small local enterprise into a regionally recognized manufacturer of premium chocolates enjoyed by consumers both domestically and internationally.

The Vision Behind Malaysia’s Premium Chocolate

The story of Beryl’s began in 1995 when Ting Sii Liong, a Malaysian entrepreneur with a passion for chocolate, founded the company under the name Real Chocolate Industry in Desa Serdang, located south of Kuala Lumpur. His vision was to create premium-quality chocolates that could elevate Malaysia’s chocolate industry and compete successfully in the global marketplace.

At a time when Malaysia’s premium chocolate market was largely dominated by European brands, Ting Sii Liong recognized an untapped opportunity within the country’s cocoa industry. He believed that Malaysia, as one of the world’s important cocoa-producing nations, should not merely export raw cocoa beans but should also establish its own high-quality chocolate brand capable of earning international recognition.

In its early years, the company operated on a relatively small scale but placed strong emphasis on quality at every stage of production—from selecting cocoa beans and developing recipes to maintaining strict manufacturing standards. This commitment enabled the company to create products that appealed to both local and international consumers.

Early Success and the Duty-Free Strategy

The company’s first three products introduced to the market were:
  • Triangle Chocolate Bar
  • Popcorn Chocolate
  • Almond and Assorted Nuts Milk Chocolate
These products were strategically distributed through duty-free shops at airports and border crossings, as well as leading supermarkets throughout Malaysia. Focusing on the duty-free market proved to be a smart decision, as travelers often seek distinctive local gifts and souvenirs. As a result, the brand quickly gained visibility among both domestic and international tourists.

Factory Expansion and the Camior Bar

After only three years in business, demand had grown beyond the capacity of the original factory. In 1998, the company relocated its operations to a larger manufacturing facility in the Seri Kembangan Industrial Area, Selangor. Equipped with modern machinery and expanded production lines, the new facility enabled the company to produce a wider variety of chocolate products.

That same year, the original Triangle Chocolate Bar was redeveloped and reintroduced as the Camior Bar Chocolate. The product was well received by consumers and gradually became one of the company’s classic offerings, remaining memorable to many Malaysian chocolate lovers today.

The Meaning of Beryl’s and Brand Positioning

A major turning point in the company’s history came in 2000 when it officially changed its name from Real Chocolate Industry to Beryl’s Chocolate & Confectionery Sdn. Bhd. The company also introduced new product formats, including its signature chocolate-coated nuts packaged in distinctive round glass jars, helping to establish a unique brand identity.

The name “Beryl” comes from a precious mineral known for its purity and variety of colors, including emerald and aquamarine. The choice of this name symbolizes both the purity of the ingredients and the diversity of flavors that the brand strives to offer its consumers.

Beryl’s positioned itself clearly as a brand that delivers luxury at an affordable price—distinguishing itself from both expensive imported Western chocolates and lower-cost products that often compromise on quality.

The Breakthrough : Tiramisu Almond Chocolate

A defining milestone that elevated the brand to regional prominence occurred in 2003 with the launch of Beryl’s Tiramisu Almond Chocolate. Inspired by the famous Italian dessert, this innovative chocolate combined the creaminess of chocolate with aromatic coffee flavors and a coating of premium cocoa powder.

Following its introduction, Tiramisu Almond Chocolate quickly gained popularity and became one of the company’s signature products. It remains one of the most recognizable Beryl’s offerings among consumers in Malaysia and abroad.

The success of this product demonstrated that Beryl’s was more than just a chocolate manufacturer. It showcased the brand’s ability to combine creativity and innovation with chocolate craftsmanship, producing distinctive products that stood out in a highly competitive market.

Beryl’s Chocolate Wonderland

During the mid-2000s, Beryl’s opened Beryl’s Chocolate Wonderland, the brand’s first retail outlet located within its Seri Kembangan factory. This concept allowed consumers to purchase chocolates directly from the source while enjoying a unique and memorable visitor experience.

The attraction soon became a popular destination for both local and international tourists. Designed with a European-inspired atmosphere, it combined entertainment, education, and insights into the chocolate-making process.

Expanding into Beryl’s Gourmet and Education

In 2008, the company opened its second manufacturing facility in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor, to meet growing demand. During the same period, it introduced Beryl’s Gourmet, a product line specifically developed for the food service industry.

Beryl’s Gourmet offers high-quality chocolate products intended for use in cakes, pastries, baked goods, and other culinary applications. This expansion enabled the company to serve not only individual consumers but also restaurants, hotels, bakeries, and other food-service businesses.

At the same time, Beryl’s launched educational factory tours, allowing students and members of the public to learn about chocolate production, the history of chocolate, and its origins through a small chocolate museum located within the factory complex.

Commitment to Quality: Halal and HACCP Certifications

One of Beryl’s greatest achievements was becoming the first Malaysian chocolate manufacturer to receive both HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) certification and Halal Certification from JAKIM (Department of Islamic Development Malaysia).

These certifications are particularly significant in Malaysia and the broader ASEAN region, where a large Muslim population seeks products that comply with halal requirements. HACCP certification further demonstrates that every stage of production—from raw material selection to final packaging—meets rigorous international food safety standards.

A Diverse Range of Flavors for the Global Stage

Today, Beryl’s offers more than 200 chocolate and confectionery products, covering the three primary categories of chocolate:
  • Dark Chocolate
  • Milk Chocolate
  • White Chocolate
The brand is also known for its wide range of specialty flavors, including Durian, which reflects Southeast Asia’s unique culinary identity, as well as Matcha, Strawberry, Tiramisu, Hazelnut, Salted Caramel, and many others.

Through continuous innovation, strict quality control, and a commitment to delivering premium chocolates at accessible prices, Beryl’s has successfully established itself as one of Malaysia’s most respected chocolate brands and an ambassador of Malaysian chocolate on the global stage.
