Sarson's
A timeless balance between tradition and innovation
For over 150 years, Sarsons has stood as one of the most trusted names in British kitchens. Known for its signature tang, bold aroma, and glass drop-shaped bottle, Sarsons vinegar has transcended generations as both a flavor enhancer and a preserving essential.
A Legacy That Began in London
The story of Sarsons began in 1794, when Thomas Sarson founded a small vinegar business in Craven Street, London. His son, Henry James Sarson, officially registered the name Sarsons Virgin Vinegar in 1884, ushering in a new era of growth and quality.
Growth and the Golden Years
Sarsons expanded rapidly during the Industrial Revolution, becoming one of Britains most prominent vinegar producers. In the early 20th century, it pioneered the production of distilled vinegar, gaining popularity among chefs and households.
By 1932, Sarsons had merged with other manufacturers to form British Vinegars Ltd., and in 1968, operations moved to Middleton, where the brand unveiled its now-iconic teardrop bottle design and began marketing through televisionbecoming a household name.
Ownership and Reinvention
Though ownership changed handsfrom Crosse & Blackwell to Nestlé, then to Premier Foods, and finally to Mizkan of Japan in 2012Sarsons never compromised its traditional fermentation methods. This commitment to quality and adaptability made it a timeless brand.
