Zespri RubyRed is a new red kiwi variety developed by Zespri International in collaboration with Plant & Food Research. First bred in 2007, the fruit was created by crossbreeding cultivars Zes006 and CK51_09 and was officially introduced in 2022.
Its name RubyRed comes from its striking red fleshresembling a precious rubyand symbolizes its rarity and premium quality.
Unique Characteristics and Health Benefits
The kiwis red color comes from anthocyanin, a natural antioxidant also found in berries. RubyRed is smaller than green or gold kiwi, but packs a punch in flavor and nutrition.
Its sweet, berry-like flavor and smooth texture make it perfect for salads, fruit bowls, parfaits, desserts, smoothies, and even jam or jelly.
