Tubtim Siam Pomelo
Thailands Global Fruit Legacy
Besides being a rice powerhouse, Thailand is also one of the worlds top fruit producers. Among its premium fruit exports, the Tubtim Siam Pomelo stands out for its unique taste, cultural significance, and limited production.
The Origin Story
In 1980, Mr. Somwang Manlae from Pak Phanang district, Nakhon Si Thammarat province, planted a local pomelo variety known as the "pink pomelo" from Pattani. Early versions of the fruit retained some bitterness, but after years of grafting and refinement, the final version bore sweet-only flesh with a deep ruby-red color. Hence, it was named Tubtim Siam or Red Siam Pomelo.
Grown Only in Southern Thailand
Tubtim Siam Pomelo thrives exclusively in southern Thailand due to calcium-rich soil. This unique mineral profile contributes to its exceptional sweetness. The fruit is produced in small quantities annually, making it rare and precious. Its also considered a lucky fruit and is often given as a premium gift.
